The Illinois Central purchased 500 General American 4700 cubic foot covered hoppers in 1966. These decal sets cover every paint scheme applied to these cars from 1966-1983. With ICG's slow repainting program, these cars lasted a long time in their various schemes, at least into 2006. These new sets are aimed at the Tangent Scale Models GATC 4700 Covered Hopper and are printed by Cartograf, makers of the finest water-slide decals in the world. Which decals sets are right for you? Don't worry. Sit back and relax. Let's walk through each of the offerings:

ICG-95 IC Illinois Central GATC 4700 Covered Hoppers Delivery Gray 1966+ includes enough lettering to letter 2 cars in the IC's delivery gray scheme. This decal set is carefully researched and includes accurate General American style narrow reporting marks used exclusively on these 500 cars. The cars were painted gray, with black bolsters, black bays, black centersill/frame between the bays and black trucks. The cars were built from 12-1966 through 3-1967. Extra lettering is included to handle different CAPY weights, later era reweighs, COTS and even some CC patch lettering for some of the cars acquired by the Chicago Central in 1985. A lettering diagram is included.

If you are looking for some online IC prototype photo ideas, you can check George Elwood Fallen Flags , RR Picture Archives.net, or RailcarPhotos to get you started. Look for cars in the IC 56300-56799 range. (For Chicago Central fans, when you search these sites, look for cars in the CC 56300-56799 range. An example is this link to CC 56358 in Altoona PA in 2006 .

ICG-96 IC Illinois Central GATC 4700 Covered Hopper Repaints 1972+ includes enough lettering to letter 2 cars in the IC's orange repaint scheme applied in 1972.. The cars were painted orange (yes, orange) with orange bolsters, orange bays, black centersill/frame between the bays/bolsters and black trucks. Yes, the IC 755471 above is orange. (Note the white delineator stripes along the bottom edge of the carbody. When these cars were repainted, they were moved to the IC 755300-755799 series.

This huge decal set is carefully researched and includes accurate logo technology to do two different logo variations (across two ribs or across 3 ribs). Multiple CAPY data blocks, reweighs, and COTS options are included. The cars were painted orange, with black bolsters, black bays, black centersill/frame between the bays and black trucks. ICG-98 ICG Illinois Central Gulf GATC 4700 Covered Hopper Repaints 1977-1978+ includes enough lettering to letter 2 cars in the ICG's orange scheme used in late 1977 and early 1978. These repaints featured first a smaller logo with the large spelled out lettering, then a simlified "ICG" in the top left corner with the smaller logo. For ICG fans, this is the freight car scheme that corresponds to the short-lived solid orange locomotive era. This decal set includes enough lettering for two different cars. The cars were painted orange, with black bolsters, black bays, black centersill/frame between the bays and black trucks. A lettering diagram is included.

ICG-99 ICG Illinois Central Gulf GATC 4700 Covered Hopper Repaints 1978-1983+ includes enough lettering to letter 4 different GATC 4700s in the ICG's ever changing take on their simplified freight car paint schemes. In 1978, ICG changed to a simplifed ICG initials on the left and black "I" logo to the right. Later in 1978, the black "I" was dropped from the scheme. In 1980, the ICG changed to a skinny style of ICG lettering. By 1983, the scheme changed to its final form, with a thin ICG reporting marks on the left and large thin ICG initials on the right. These were exciting times! The ICG ceased repainting freight cars at the end of 1983, so things were more or less frozen in time until the IC gray scheme would start in 1988. Theese cars were painted orange, with black bolsters, black bays, black centersill/frame between the bays and black trucks. A lettering diagram is included that shows examples of all four schemes.
