Gulf Mobile & Ohio GATC 4180 cu ft Airslide Covered Hopper 1964+
This decal set will help you letter a GM&O GATC 4180
cu.ft. Airslide Covered Hopper. In HO, Tangent Scale Models makes
an exquisite model of this prototype. The GM&O cars were
painted gray, and had black bays, centersills, draft gear and
trucks.
The 46 GM&O cars were purchased across three orders from
GATC:
GM&O 85000-85017 1964
GM&O 85018-85035 1966
GM&O 85036-85045 1967
Examples of cars in original paint lasted into the late 1990s.
Some were even sent packing ot the Chicago Central in 1986. A set
of CC initials in included as a nod to my CCP modeling friends.
Enough lettering is supplied to letter one complete car from any
of the three orders. There is a lot of return route information
included on this sheet. The 1966 built series of cars had red
lettering on a white background. The other orders had either red
or black lettering. The GM&O was reassigning these cars
often, as car utilization required, and photros show constant
restenciling of the return routes and later complete paint outs
of the into the 1970s.
Examples of return routes include the UP in Milliken Colorado,
the MP in Atchison Kansas, the CRIP in Enid Oklahoma, the IHB in
Roby Indiana, and of course the GM&O in New Orleans,
Louisiana. These cars were used in Sugar, Flour and Corn Starch
loading.
The decal set is printed in black, white and red. A
lettering diagram is included.
