Illinois Central Coil Car 1967+

The Illinois Central received 2 deliveries of Evans Coil Cars. The first series, IC 97275-97299, was delivered in May of 1967. The second batch followed in May of 1971, landing in the IC 941025-941049 series.

The entire car was painted black with orange hoods. Examples of these cars in original IC lettering continue to serve the CN into 2004.

A detailed lettering diagram is included. This set includes enough lettering for 1 car and is printed in black and white. You provide the ACI label; the decal set provides all other lettering. COTS plates and ICG era re-weigh dates are also included to model a post-merger/modern era car. The lettering diagram illustrates both series of cars in their as-delivered stenciling.

Both Walthers and (soon) Red Caboose make models appropriate for this IC series. The Walthers car can be used to model the the 1967 ('Type III') built cars, and the Red Caboose model can be used for the 1971 ('Type IV') series . In N-Scale, Red Caboose has already released a Type IV car with angled hoods.

An additional photo of IC 941036 can be found in the IC/GM&O Color Guide by James Kincaid. (Morning Sun Publishers) A very dirty ex-IC 941034 (with ICG reporting marks and number) can be found on the George Elwood Fallen Flags Website .
