Illinois Central Gulf 40' Salt Loading Boxcar 1973+

In March of 1973, the ICG modified 90 40' boxcars for bulk salt loading. One known usage of these cars was by Allied Chemical between Baton Rouge, LA and Acme, NC. McComb shop modifications included adding new Morton running boards to the roofs of these cars, along with a pair of square roof loading hatches.

The cars were numbered ICG 167100-167189.

The cars were built to last at least 5 years in the harsh environment of salt service. By 1980, less than a dozen cars existed in the series. Branchline has an excellent 40' Boxcar kit (8 ft door) available as a starting point to model this car.

A detailed lettering diagram is included. This set is printed in black and white.

This decal set has been completely reworked from the ground up in 2018 -- all new hand-drawn artwork, screen printing and accuracy are at the top of the list of changes.

Cost: $6.00 per set.
